At Bruton Surgery, there are a number of clinics and services on offer. In addition to our routine health services such as managing your acute needs, undertaking tests, vaccinations and chronic conditions, we also provide:
Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy (First Contact Practitioners)
Lower back and neck pain are the greatest cause of years lost to disability in the UK, with chronic joint pain or osteoarthritis affecting more than 8.75 million people. In addition, musculoskeletal conditions also account for 30% of all GP appointments.
Our first contact practitioners can help patients with musculoskeletal issues such as back, neck and joint pain by:
- assessing and diagnosing issues
- giving expert advice on how best to manage their conditions
- referring them onto specialist services if necessary.
Cervical Screening (Smear Clinic)
Cervical Screening (Smear Test) is routinely offered to women as part of a National Screening Programme between the ages of 25 and 64.
This test is not to diagnose cervical cancer. The test is to check the health of the cervix, which is the lower part of the womb. For the majority of women the test will show that everything is fine but for 1 in 20 women there may be some changes in the cells that can be caused by many things; however most of these changes will not lead to cervical cancer. Since the 1980’s, cervical cancer rates have halved mostly due to women having regular smear tests.
From July 2025, anyone who is screened on or after 1 July 2025 and tests negative for HPV will move to 5 yearly screening unless previous screening history suggests they should be screened more regularly. This means that patients aged 25-49 who are negative HPV after 1 July will be recalled every 5 years instead of every 3 years.
A new leaflet is now available which provides information about cervical screening – NEW – Your Guide to NHS Cervical Screening Information Leaflet
NEW – from September 2025, normal smear results from the NHS Cervical Screening Programme will be sent to patients via an NHS App message. It will appear as an NHS App notification, and if you don’t have notifications switched on for the NHS App, you may also receive an SMS message to remind you to check the app. If the NHS App message is not read within 72 hours of delivery, or if you don’t have the NHS App, a letter will be sent as a failsafe. Please note that results are provided by the NHS Cervical Screening Service directly, and not by the practice.
