Managing flu-like illnesses

For information about how to self-care for flu-like illness, when to seek medical assistance and how to avoid spreading infections, please visit NHS 111.

Flu vaccinations are still available for eligible patients if you have not already received your vaccine this year – please contact the practice to book.

Antibiotics do not work for viral infections such as flu, as they will not relieve your symptoms or speed up recovery.  For many people the most important way to manage your flu-like illness is through rest, hydration and pain relief such as paracetamol or ibuprofen and the illness will improve after a few days.  For patients who are at higher risk (due to age or long-term medical condition) or if your symptoms have not improved after 7 days, please contact the practice or NHS 111.
